It’s not hard to be fanbois and fangirls of the Come Thru Market. Good music? Check. Good food? Good God, yes! Melanated cuties vending their goods? You know it! Badass market managers? Yuuuuuup. The Come Thru Market at the Redd is a special place. If you haven’t had the chance to visit the market, we need you to stop reading this right now so that you can look at your calendar and schedule yourself some time to come thru. This place was where we had our humble beginnings as market farmers all thanks to the Come Thru Market Farmer Training Program (which is currently taking applications for the 2022 cohort).
We wanna shout out shiny who is the market manager at Come Thru, farmer and medicine maker of Scrapberry Farm, and all around badass whoworks extra hard to create spaces for Black and Brown growers to learn, connect, and grow their businesses. (Take a moment and listen to these podcasts where shiny shares how the Come Thru Market came to be and why a space like this is not only important, but necessary for Black and Brown farmers).
As program participants, not only were we equipped with a ton of resources to help finesse our businesses, but we had the opportunity to go through our first farmer’s market season with support and guidance. Not sure if your booth setup is going to attract customers? No worries, shiny is there to offer tips and tricks to make your stand really pop. Not sure what you should price your veggies at? All good, shiny will help you figure out how to value your labor and product so that you can set those prices.
But wait! There’s more! You also get to be a part of a cohort of other amazing Black and Brown farmers. We got to be in community with the amazing people at Another Spring Farm, Lomita Farm, Baylasan Botanicals, Good Rain Farm, Casas del Tequio, and Farmer Funderburk. Learning with others is our jam. We love having multiple minds working together to problem solve, to uplift, and to celebrate. And that’s what we got with the Come Thru Market Farmer Training Program.
The program is currently accepting applications and will be doing so until Wednesday, February 16th. There will be two information sessions where folks can learn more and/or ask questions. So what are you waiting for? Apply now!
